ECU Rolls to 9-1, Finishes First Half Strong
Pirates sweep VMI on the road to end fall semester12/05/06
GREENVILE, NC - The ECU Ice Hockey Club traveled to Lynchburg, VA this past weekend to take on divisional foe and 2006 BRHC playoff opponent Virginia Military Institute. After an uncharacteristically poor performance in game one, resulting in an 8-5 ECU victory, the Pirates got back on track with a much better effort in an 11-3 win on Saturday to improve to 4-1 overall against the Keydets and 9-1 on the season. With the sweep the Pirates remained perfect in BRHC play (9-0), and jumped in front of the University of Richmond (8-2) to claim the overall league lead with 18 points going into the second half.
Just halfway through only their second season in existence, ECU has become a regional powerhouse earning top 10 honors in six out of the past seven South Region rankings. The Pirates currently sit at #7 but are looking to improve when the new rankings are released December 12th. The club is eager to build on their torrid start as they take on three D-II teams to kick off the spring at the seventh annual Canes Cup in Raleigh. The tournament is hosted by NC State and will see ECU battle the likes of Duke, NC State and Virginia Tech, January 12-14 at the RecZone. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults at the door. Please check the schedule page for game times.
